COMPREHENSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE COMPENSATION AND LIABILITY ACT (CERCLA OR SUPERFUND)

CERCLA addresses the remediation of sites where contamination has occurred in the past. The remediation method used, the degree of cleanup necessary and the party responsible for funding cleanup varies by site. Some sites are eligible for national funds (from the Superfund) to cover the cost of cleanup until the responsible party is located.
